By converting fermions into bosons, using certain isotopes of some chemical elements which allow such conversion, there is no theoretical upper limit to how many bosons can occupy a confined space. Once bosons are converted back into fermions, the size of the explosion (due to the Pauli exclusion principle) could be bigger than the largest known fireworks ever attempted, or of the size of an entire planet, or even of a galaxy. You cannot build a banger the size of the universe because you don’t have so much available energy to build that.. but.. if the energy of quantum fluctuations could be exploited by pulling energy out of the quantum vacuum (yes, that’s possible and practically proven, regardless of the fact that the theory is lagging behind and it should not be possible according to the second law of thermodynamics), then theoretically there would be no limit at all. Only the time available for pumping convertible bosons into the device would be a limit in practical terms.
To make the fireworks colorful, you could position around the mother of all crackers all kind of chemicals that react in different colors, but who’s there to see it anyway if that mothercracker blows up to the size of a planet.
Well, not all elements can be used as a fuel for the explosion since most of them can’t be switched to a boson state — that’s another limitation. And of course, cramming too much energy into a small volume would create a black hole, so there’s a limit there as well. But as the universe began with a bang, perhaps another big bang could be created too.
