Will human civilization survive?

Earth, the Bamboo Ark.
Imagine an enormous floating barge made of woven bamboo mats drifting in the middle of a vast river, wide and flanked by mountainous riverbanks with high, rugged cliffs impossible to live on. The current is strong and relentless. The countless people on the barge must constantly paddle to avoid being swept toward the abyss, where the river plunges into a great waterfall. They know of this danger from the stories told by the elders, who once came close enough to hear the roaring depths.
The elders also speak of the fertile lands at the river’s source, where their ancestors once lived. But returning there is nearly impossible — the higher one travels upstream, the narrower and faster the river becomes. There are too few people to paddle against the current.
Over time, as the population on the barge grows, it should become easier to move toward the highlands. Yet cooperation fades instead. The more people aboard, the greater the divisions among them. Some no longer believe the elders’ stories of the stable land nor the dangerous abyss behind. These doubters refuse to paddle, becoming dead weight that the rest cannot overcome no matter how hard they try. Those who continue to row can keep the barge from plunging into the abyss, but they make no progress upstream.
Now imagine that this barge represents humanity on Earth. Our civilization drifts on a river of time, ignoring the abyss — the inevitable cosmic events that will one day threaten our existence and everything we have built through science and technology. Earth has faced such cataclysms before in its geological past, yet many people still deny this reality and make no effort to reach safer ground.
The stable ground would be space colonies — self-sustaining worlds able to move freely and protect humanity from disaster. Only a united global effort can achieve this. If our divisions keep us fighting one another instead of advancing science and technology together, then we are doomed, no matter how comfortable life on Earth may seem to those who have succeeded in their opinion. Struggles over wealth and resources will prove meaningless in the face of extinction.
Only when everyone is freed from the fear of hunger and homelessness, when education is available to all without condition, will humanity have enough brilliant minds to generate the scientific and technological breakthroughs needed for our survival.
Our only hope lies in collective effort and shared purpose.

/ note: i’m posting new articles only on the OLD.RIP blog — no longer sharing on other platforms. i do not have any social accounts related to the OLD.RIP name. with my old ‘youthextension’ wordpress blog i did try out many social platforms — all discontinued years ago. no more time to do the same with OLD.RIP blog. in some cases i use ‘archive.org’, ‘youtube.com’, ‘rumble.com’, or other accounts — not under OLD.RIP name — while sharing files here. i am not using for communication social sharing or calling or messaging apps but only regular email service and regular cellphone service. keeping it to minimum — got life to live. /
