Dental research. Growing new teeth.
A few weeks ago, I spoke with a dentist about recent developments in the field, including progress on regrowing teeth. Apparently, there have been advances in growing new teeth in animal trials, but the key issue is that the newly grown teeth can take on a random shape, rather than the specific form needed for their location. Later, I wondered if Michael Levin’s research on bioelectric signaling could help address this problem, and I assumed dental researchers were already aware of it. Since then, I haven’t had peace of mind, worrying that maybe they aren’t. With so much information in every field, it’s possible to miss something important.
