Time, randomness, origin of life. Questions.
Is randomness in quantum level the reason for the arrow of time to exist? As it takes at least two elements to determine distance and time, and there is no difference which way the measuring is done, then only the randomness can break the symmetry in time.
If that’s the case then the next question is: what’s the origin of randomness? At the same time, quantum randomness may only appear to be random to us, it could be just a manifestation of deeper ordered connections between the random fluctuations. The random quantum fluctuations may appear to be not ordered to us because the universe is so vast that it would take a computer the size of the universe to find out all the relations between those random events, to reveal an order in the randomness.
Many more questions arise from these thoughts. For example: could the free will be an illusion then, if there are determined connections below the level of quantum randomness? Many physicists suggest it is, by a different logic though, and i’m not convinced. There are better theories out there, particularly the Assembly Theory. My view on free will is that even if there are deeper determined connections under the apparent random quantum fluctuations, this doesn’t mean there is no free will.
The phenomena like imagination, free will, purpose, intention, goal, agency, awareness and others, could be based on physics which are yet to be discovered, not deterministic and not even directly related to the apparent physical phenomena we currently know of — they could simply be influenced by the known to us physics without being rigidly coupled to, and have the capacity to influence our shared reality when certain conditions are met. There could be some entirely different tools of the universe manifesting as free will etc., and we could be looking for toys in a wrong sandbox. In any case, that’s not guaranteed there’s something entirely different out there, which could manifest as free will. We may be going in the right direction with physics, thus, in the absence of another sandbox than this universe, simulated or not, the best is to live life playing with the toys we’ve got, until we get smart enough to create our own, better toys.
Maybe mathematics can give some answers, but also mathematics, on very advanced level, will be so complex and invented, departing from discovered math, that errors will be possible due to our limitations in understanding some phenomena. Mathematics can only be as good as the observations can confirm the calculations — the rest is just a possible, unconfirmed interpretation.
Coming back to the question of randomness, in the vastness of the universe the right conditions for the life to establish itself on suitable locations for the continuity of it, could pop out just at random. Life could randomly be seeded, in different chemical forms, at countless number of locations in the universe. Very few of the randomly created life supporting elements would have the right conditions for them to evolve in complexity fast enough as to be able to take care of itself, its own replication, evolution and survival. We as humans are very close to it in principle, but not there yet. We still can’t control even weather and earth’s internal processes, on which our life depends, not to talk about cosmic events capable of destroying life on earth.. but that’s another topic.
The random quantum events are also destroying life in small scale, thus that’s quite rare when a type of a life form will be able to overcome the destructive randomness, copying itself quickly enough to have a continuity. Most likely an extremely rare runoff from randomness doesn’t allow multiple competing chemistries of life to get established on the same location, allowing the first life chemistry to take over all the resources. That seemingly singular origin of life gives an impression of uniqueness of life, while in fact it’s just a result of a random quantum event in a right spot in the universe. Random to our physical reality that is.

/ note: i’m posting new articles only on the OLD.RIP blog — no longer sharing on other platforms. i do not have any social accounts related to the OLD.RIP name, except as a test on “telegram” which is now discontinued. with my old ‘youthextension’ wordpress blog i did try out many social platforms — all discontinued years ago. no more time to do the same with OLD.RIP blog. i am not using any other social sharing or calling or messaging apps but only the OLD.RIP and “telegram”. keeping it to minimum — got life to live. /
