About my new travels.

Not so long time ago I posted some aricles basically saying that soon I’m about to go to travel again, in the direction of the countries where I’ve never been before. Even in Europe there are still some countries I have not visited yet.

Well, I actually tried to depart from Paris by hitchhiking several weeks ago, when there were a few sunny days. After going with a local train out of Paris to the south, I spent on a crossing of a road three to four hours trying to be picked up by someone, but no luck. Regardless of a sunny day, late in the evening it turned cold, below freezing, so I decided to return to Paris.

The next attempt is planned to take place in couple of weeks, but it can also be postponed. The things here aren’t standing still — got to take care of stuff. It also depends on the weather. If the time comes to go and nothing works out, in sense of going by hitchhiking with a large backpack, with tent and all I need for the beginning of a new life in a new place on the street, then I may take a bus with very little stuff, with small and relatively light bags. There are limits to how big and heavy the bags can be for a bus ride.

I’ve been in such situations before, quite a few times, so that doesn’t worry me, but as I’ve got all the camping gear I need then why leave it behind. I will try to go to a new adventure quite comfortably, with warm clothes, large tent, and warm double layer sleeping bag. Those are all heavy things and take a lot of space, so I’ll be carrying all my gear on a hand truck. It also requires to have reserve wheels and some reparation tools, which adds to the total weight. I’m planning to camp in mountains as well in some places, so i must be well prepared.

One way or another, earlier or later, I will go to travel again, even if that will be a short trip with no plans to stay and work somewhere. Things have changed a bit, some opportunities have opened for me recently here in Paris area, so I may even consider to stay here and to travel only sometimes, when possible.

In any case, I have given away almost everything I had, before the recent attempt to go to a new discovery trip, leaving to myself only the things I need for travel, so it won’t take much for me to grab my stuff and go. As soon as I decide that the proposed and discussed “opportunities” here were just a bluff, or will take too long time to be realized, I will make a move to another country.

The “another country” in my plans currently is Portugal. For over ten years it has been in my plans, but instead I traveled and lived in some other countries. I have even taken a course of basic portuguese some years ago.. by now I can already understand some conversation, news, and documentaries in portuguese. That said, as life is tough, I have no more time nor the means to explore whole of the Portugal, to decide where is the best for me. There are enough videos out there on the internet to get an idea, so I have decided to go straight to Madeira island, the cheapest way I can afford, which could be the bus ride and ferry, and will try to start a new life there.

But as I said, I’m still trying to get a better idea about the new opportunities here in Paris, then I will decide if it’s worth it to stay or it’s better to start all over again in Madeira.

I have also made next plans in case if things won’t work out in Portugal for me. There are more countries to go, but before a next move I will probably come back to France and will look around in some small towns somewhere in hills and forests, not too high in mountains. I love mountains but not the areas where there are few trees and it gets too cold in winter. Snow is not my thing — never liked it. Regardless of being many times in high mountains, including four trips to Tian-Shan, I didn’t go there because of the snow but despite of it, to meditate and train, to feel the power of nature. My childhood and youth passed in a place where in winter the temperature dropped to -35 degrees Celsius as usual, and in some winters on some days it went to -45°C, so I guess you understand why I’m not a fan of cold and snow — had a fair share of sensation of cold in my life as not to wish for it again. A small town somewhere in south of France, within hills and forests, that could also be a nice place to live, in case if Madeira turns out to have some relevant issues for me that I’m currently not aware of.
