WHAT DO WE KNOW IN SCIENCE IS OFTEN NOT A FACT FROM A LOGICAL CONCLUSION BASED ON OTHER FACTS, BUT MAY ONLY SEEM SO.
the more you learn what is truly known in science as a proven fact and what are just theories waiting to be proven, the more difficult is to learn something really new. it is supposed to be other way around — the more you learn the easier is to catch up with new knowledge.
the problem is in the current stage of information age where too many people are trying to prove themselves to the world by sharing ever more information online, with frequent updates when there is really nothing new to share, and by doing so the quality of the information is suffering due to attempts to make the information somewhat novel and interesting.
i’m not talking here about straight out lies and fraud, which i have written a lot about on my previous blogs.. and will write again, to remind you. here i’m talking about the issue that while i try to learn something new in sciences and pay attention to the leading information to a new discovery, very often part of the information is based just on theories and not on established facts.. this means that the conclusions are just new ideas but not logically following new truths.
those who have no deeper understanding on particular topic may come to conclusion that a presented new information is an established reality in physics, nature, or whatever the topic is about. that’s often not the case.
the advice is to always consider all the information critically and to learn more about every presented “fact”, to get to the truth. especially i advise you to learn more about the leading information to the new “facts”, which will open your eyes to the sneakily presented false or theorised information.
such constantly critical approach will definitely clear your mind to the current state in any science, to the reality about how much we still don’t know. that’s better than having a false sense about a particular science discovering something new, while in fact it’s just a new theory based on other unproven theories.
the roots of some current misconceptions in science can go so deep that even scientists working the whole life in a particular field are fooling themselves, taking old theories as established facts because of lack of other theories replacing the old ones. if a theory has been known to a scientist for the entire life, it doesn’t make it a proven fact, but it is easy to mislead oneself and to take the conclusions based on the theory as a fact.. so much worse for the science to get to the truth.
