as the earth’s interior cools down, it will reach a point when the rotating core of the earth will not be as fluid in its rotation as it is now. it will begin to stick to outer layers and pulling it along, thus changing the rotation of earth. by the current scientific knowledge, the earth’s core in its rotation isn’t stable — during some periods it speeds up and at other times slows down. in geological terms the changes to the rotation of core are quite fast, with no prediction possible — it appears chaotic to the best of our understanding. we don’t know everything about all the possible causes for such apparently random behavior of the earth’s core.
far in the future, when the earth will be cooled down during deep excavation and harvesting of the heat for usable energy, it will probably be the most dangerous time for the entire project when the core begins to pull the upper layers along. as nobody knows for sure the speed of the rotation of the core, it will be safer to locate parts of the colony with living organisms away from earth. on the earth which will be largely made inhabitable anyway by this time, outer layers being excavated, there will remain robots controlled from distance. the robots and factories will continue harvesting energy and materials.
as explained in previous writings, the center of a space colony must have a significant amount of mass, for the stability of the structure. when there will be the last piece of the earth left in the center, cooled down and mostly metal — iron (Fe) and nickel (Ni) — the process of getting it out for construction materials will be very difficult i suppose, unless there’s a new technology out there for mining it efficiently. even though the pressure on the core will be way less than now, it will still remain very hot for millions of years. while the separately built space colonies can use the center to store raw materials, the original colony, the earth’s remnant, could use the hot center for energy, until it cools down enough for building there storage and recycling facilities for the space colony.
