in this article i describe some issues with the process of research and publishing — below there are no ideas presented on the engineering and science side of the things, but i have made many notes which i will organize into subtopics to write articles on each of them, which will follow.

as i live in france and most of the people i encounter here speak better french than english, i will try to translate at least some of the articles into french. myself i’ve got enough things to take care of, so i’m seeking an assistance with the translation. as english is not my native language neither, same as with french, you may also offer me assistance in correcting the grammar/syntax of english.

these days there’s so much false information on the internet, probably because those who publish it try to be different and seek to get attention with whatever means possible, truth and/or lies, that it almost gives me a sense of wasting my time trying to learn something new. even in science. i will perhaps be better off relying on my older studies than trying to learn something new on internet. i mean i can’t avoid searching for science news, but i must rely on my previous knowledge to come to my own conclusions, and not to rely on anything that the news are attempting to sell me as a new development in science.
if i write about some ideas which happen to be wrong or impossible, then it’s not on purpose — i do my best to present as realistic and truthful information as possible, but nobody is perfect. in any case i usually point it out clearly when some of my ideas are speculations or unconfirmed scientific ideas, in “what if” context. i have noticed that i already begin to contradict to my earlier written parts on the series in this topic — it’s because from time to time i’m having better insights and engineering ideas which are more realistic. thus, take these writings as a process of discovery, rather than a ready scripture about how it all can be done. and by the way, as i already mentioned in one previous post, i do have a formal education in engineering and automation of factory machinery, but i didn’t mention yet, which i do now, that i finished the engineering school with the second best score of the school for the entire history of the school, to that point in time. i suspect it’s because i had other interests and i didn’t attend the engineering school frequently in the end, almost quitting — i could have easily gotten the highest score, as my teachers and director of the school said, if i cared about it. thus it’s quite probable that after all these years since i finished the formal studies, i am still capable of thinking in the engineering terms of the project, having some basic understanding of mechanics, forces in play, and properties of materials.
into the topic of the survival of civilisation i’m inserting several other related ideas, not only the engineering and science, because ultimately all of it is related. it would be impossible to advance with the project if some important issues of the civilisation won’t be resolved. it is the humans who will construct the space colony, or they will not, so i do have to approach the project from all sides possible. the articles on the topic, surviving as a civilisation, may appear like i’m jumping all over the place, from engineering to science to human culture to fraud to psychology and even physiology, and i may even go into issues like politics and religions. those are all related to surviving as a civilisation, thus i must touch upon them. the issue is in publishing all of it in a coherent manner, by dividing into specific sections. i will do my best depending on time available besides my other projects in life.
one day i may write a book, collecting all the writings and organizing them, but so far i’m writing as it happens to come to my mind. i do make notes and try to organize the notes into sections for upcoming articles, to write a way it should be easy to follow, but often i have some new ideas to add to already written articles, so i must return to the subtopic and make references to my older posts. i consider it important to share my ideas right now, to have a feedback and find errors in my thinking, and perhaps better ideas. if i need to edit or change some perspective then it would be better to do it in a new article than changing the older articles over and over again. in the older writings i only change the errors of syntax and grammar, if that is something important for better understanding.. some smaller errors i may leave in after the post has already been published, until i find the time to correct them. so, please bear with me and take these writings as notes for further compilation into a book, if it ever happens.
i have written a few books in the past and i realized that i’m not the person to really follow the requirements demanded from a writer to be successful. publishers demand from unknown writers self promotion, meetings with readers, and they impose many other demands even before the book is printed, in preparation for the book to be released. i had an offer to one of my books and i decided it’s not for me to make money such way, so i keep all my books free. i have better things to do with my life than pushing my books into a financial success — it is a work, a hard work, or in some cases just luck, to make a good living as a writer. it’s not my priority in life.

the same thing will likely happen to all of my future books — i will share them online for free, who knows.. if i will find time to write more books. so far these notes, on the topic of surviving as a civilisation, jumping all over the place following the ideas that come to my mind, is what i dedicate some of my time for.

about the audio/video recordings which i mentioned a few articles back. from my experience with previous audio and video stories which i have recorded, i’m doing ok with my travel memories and happenings in my life, no issues there, but i become not very articulate when talking about science.

as i’m not a native speaker of english, i often lack in speed to recall specific vocabulary needed to describe something.. it creates a pause in the recording, which creates a pressure to quickly find another way to explain the thing i could in theory say in few words, which becomes awkward, and in the end the result isn’t as smooth as i would like it to be. if i would take time to think, to record again, and then edit later, it would be way longer process than writing an article. thus on complicated topics i must keep writing.
by now i do have all the necessary equipment for recording both good audio and good video, but i don’t need to use the tech whole the time. in fact i rarely use the tech, it’s stored away as i have no much space to keep it always ready for a shooting. i stick to the principle that you don’t need to pull out all the value from something even if you spent a considerable time on studying it and on practicing, and invested into it a lot financially. for me having a good video and audio equipment it’s like having good guns — you don’t go shooting around in every occasion possible, you only use the technology when you really need it, to resolve a problem you can’t resolve by other means with less trouble. having a smartphone and tablet always with me, to write whenever i have an idea, is a better option than pulling out all the equipment, setting it up, recording, downloading files, editing and uploading, only to discover i made a mistake and it all needs to be done again.
sometimes i discover errors in my older writings, when there’s already many new writings posted. with videos and audio, even if it’s possible to correct the errors and upload again, it will be difficult to keep the posted files in order, and on some social media it will be impossible. editing a writing is a way faster option. when telling my life stories it’s not a big issue if i make a mistake, but on a serious topic like survival of civilisation, engineering and science, i better edit the discovered errors out in the original posts, not to mislead the thinking of those who read my writings.
hopefully i will be able to find time to practice talking on scientific topics, to become articulate with the exact/precise terminology needed, and also to train my vocal cords at the same time. so far, even talking for a half an hour, it makes my throat to hurt a bit. if i tell some stories on a video, or in audio only, for over an hour, which i’ve done a few times in the last ten years, then after that i need to recover my throat from hurting for a day. that may give you an idea about how much training i need, to become good at talking, while being already over fifty years of age.
considering all of the above, and the fact that recently i succeeded to buy a waterproof smartphone and a waterproof tablet, both second hand as i’m not having much spare money, those are my favorite tools of work now. with the rugged android devices i have no worries that some humid conditions, out in the rainy day or an accident while drinking a coffee for example, will stop my flow of thinking when i’m into sharing my ideas.. and those have very high capacity batteries as well, lasting for several days on single charge, which gives an extra peace of mind and pleasure to work without worries.
