in millions of years, if not earlier, the conditions on earth may become inhabitable. will it be because of solar changes, or other cosmic influence, there’s little difference for human civilisation.. earlier or later we will need to abandon this relative location in universe, for a space with better suited living conditions. all proposals so far, which i’m aware of, are not realistic, if you think about the underlying economy of energy, materials, and the needs of living organisms. those utopian ideas are not scientifically sound. none of them.

but there is one realistic way, which i’m thinking of, even though it may take thousands of years and perhaps a bit larger active human population in the beginning, to get it done.. not the total larger size of population which doesn’t care about the distant future of the entire human civilisation — i mean active and productive population until the robots get smart enough to sustain the growth of the technological power.

the way to survive forever, relatively speaking of course, is to build several very large spaceships, but not in space, not on the moon, or mars, and not even with the intent to leave earth in the process, but on and inside the earth. the spaceships must be so large that all of the raw material of earth will be used up, little by little, until the ships find themselves floating in the universe, without the need to leave the gravitational pull of the earth. due to the mass of the spaceships they do will stick together by the gravity, but there must be built few ships instead of one, so if there is a catastrophic failure on one ship the others will be able to sustain life, using up the materials from the failed spaceship. with the collective power of spaceships it will be possible to relocate them closer or farther away from sun, depending on needs, without wasting energy to detach from other spaceships. the gravitational pull of the ships won’t be big enough for them to collapse, because the density won’t be the same as of earth — the colony will be hundreds of times larger in size than the original earth it was built from. the collapse due to gravity will also be prevented with the materials used, stronger than the raw materials of earth.

during the construction the energy of earth’s core can and must be harvested, in process gradually cooling it down, leaving behind usable raw materials. after all the raw materials of earth are used up, it will be easy to collect materials from space around, because the gravitational pull of the entire colony in the outer regions of it, on its edges, will not be as great as of the compact earth we are living on right now — the constructed space colony will be hollow and spread out in a larger volume. at the present the energy needed to overcome earth’s pull, both to leave earth and to safely return raw materials to earth, is economically not viable for collecting cosmic materials.

one may think that such a project may take too long time to accomplish, but in fact it will be faster than current technology would permit. the science and technology advance in many respects exponentially.. the robots with artificial brains will themselves be designing and building ever more powerful robots, with very little supervision and input from humans, so the earth could in theory be completely used up for spaceships in just a few thousand years. meanwhile, during the process of building, the environment for pleasant human wellbeing will be created, with artificial climate for all living organisms that are selected for self-sustaining closed environment, comparable to that of the original earth which will be used up.

remember, the earth will earlier or later be destroyed on natural cosmic cycles, so using it up wisely is the act of saving the life some way, rather than letting it to disappear completely without a trace.

who knows when the time is right to begin taking up the engineering, viability research, and calculations for such currently impossible project. it is very unlikely that mankind will be trying to depart danger zone in the last seconds before a cosmic scale catastrophe is about to hit earth, as usually depicted in movies to play on your emotional state. but being too late for a year or for a decade is quite a possibility, counting with almost a fact that the construction capabilities of intelligent robots in the future will have great speeds, with billions of them working on the task. thus, to begin the planning stage already now makes total sense.

in fact, when the construction isn’t entirely finished yet and only a part of the raw materials of earth are used up, it will technically be possible to achieve the departure of one of the self-sustaining spaceships. it’s because the volume of the entire project, being hollow inside, will diminish the gravitational pull enough as of being almost in the outer space, on the edges of the construction, farther away from the earth, or from what is left from it to be correct.

anyone can pick up this idea to get actively involved right now. taking a copyright for this project would be a crime against the survival of the entire life as we know it. the more people will be having brains involved the better. myself i will get involved as well with my modest means, but i also work on one even perhaps more important project — extending the healthy and youthful lifespan of humans. it is quite a waste of energy if one needs to study for decades and then be productive for just a few more decades, before age-related issues prevent from contributing to the society. the longer we live in full potential the faster the progress of mankind will be.. of course only if the extended potential of life is used for the advancement of science, engineering and every other necessary supporting field of society, and not exclusively for personal pleasures of life.

in conclusion, this approach of survival considers everyone, not just the few selected who would fit into a small spaceship, relatively speaking. the size of such enormous space colony would even allow the growth of population as much as needed.
